The JEP may be a sad joke among professional journalists, but it offers little pretense of being unbiased. The BBC once earned an illustrious global reputation, one we overseas readers respected and greatly admired. The sordid details of the BBC's enabling and cover-up of Jimmy Savile's crimes have tarnished that image but the behavior of Jon Gripton and Julie Flanagan are troubling for a different reason. The petty, childish combativeness of Jon Gripton and Julie Flanigan should be intolerable for even the tiniest media organization, even one not under the public microscope as the BBC is now. The fact that neither one of these BBC employees demonstrates any fear of being called to account by their headquarters is unsettling. It could mean the BBC is asleep at the wheel, or so discombobulated it is no longer enforcing its own very basic employee guidelines for social media. Jon Gripton and Julie Flanigan have demonstrated that BBC Jersey does not adhere to elementary journalistic standards for professional manners and even the minimal appearance of political detachment. The scathing books being written now on the BBC's concealment culture would be enhanced by this example of tawdry behavior from their Jersey outpost. And they may well be. Local BBC staff were already known to have concealed knowledge of his visits to the island long after Savile's threats to sue the Sun and other newspapers for "false claims" he had visited any care homes on the island. This will not end well, nor should it.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3591695769525894359.post-127211655005522552013-05-03T21:24:56.273+01:002013-05-03T21:24:56.273+01:00Just a quick comment to say how disappointed I was...Just a quick comment to say how disappointed I was to see this from Jon Gripton and The BBC Jersey. Ok, so you expect this kind of hate-filled rubbish from the Jersey Evening Post but with people like Simon jupp at the local BBC I would have expected far better.

Bad enough for Mr. Gripton to display such prejudice but then to see this site - run by a cowardly, unemployable petty criminal as they know very well - re-tweeted from their flagship 'serious' politics link..incredible and very, very telling.
