That is not to belittle the seriousness of such corruption. Corruption at any level in any police fore is very concerning given that the police are responsible for ensuring that the rest of us do not engage in corrupt practices ourselves. There is a tendency to deal with such issues as a disciplinary matter, especially where individual officers admit guilt. Officers are told that they are more likely to be dealt with through the disciplinary process rather than through the the judicial process where they come clean.
