Christian May. The Inbetweener(s).

Christian May.

After viewing all election hustings so far during this Senatorial by election, I have noticed that Christian May could have, what looks to be, "involuntary arm movement." I have witnessed this (involuntary arm movement) before but couldn't think where.

Christian claims not to be a part of "The Establishment" and also claims he is not anti-establishment. So I thought; "what could he be?" Then it came to me................ Being a fan of the Inbetweeners TV programme, I realised that he's an Inbetweener, which also reminded me of where I had seen that involuntary arm movement before. It was on an episode of the Inbetweeners. (Series 3 episode 2)
In a very short (35 second) video clip (below) we have squeezed in four separate Hustings Meetings to demonstrate this.

The video below is published in the spirit of light-hearted fun in an attempt to inject a little humour into the political process/By-Election which can get quite ugly at times. In this regard we will NOT be publishing any negative comments against any of the candidates in this Blog Posting.

If you wish to leave a comment supporting your favoured candidate they are:

Guy De Faye.

Mike Dun.

Sarah Ferguson.

Nick Le Cornu.

All candidates opening speeches (from St. Clement Hustings) can be viewed HERE. Not forgetting you can also vote for your preferred candidate on the poll situated at the left hand-side of this page.

Jersey By Election 2016 (2) St. Clement Husting.

In part two of our by election series we offer video recordings of the candidates opening speeches (and in one case "closing" speech) at last nights hustings at St. Clement Parish Hall.

In part one of this series we conducted a poll where readers could vote for their preferred candidate. We started the poll before nomination night and before all candidates had declared so not all candidates were included in the poll. We have now started another poll (on the left hand side of the page) with all candidates included so why not give your preferred candidate a vote? Including Kim Jong-Un or none of the above?

The previous poll received in excess of 300 votes, the results of which can be seen below.

Royal Court Challenge. Re-election St Helier Number 1?

PRESS RELEASE ON BEHALF OF
NICK LE CORNU AND GINO RISOLI

FOR IMMEDIATE PUBLICATION      -       31ST OCTOBER 2014

Challenge in Royal Court to St Helier District No.1 Election

Deputy Nick Le Cornu and Gino Risoli, candidates in the election for Deputy in St Helier No.1 held on 15th October 2014, are presenting an application to the Royal Court at 10am Friday 31st October to have the election in that District declared void and a new election called, based on high levels of electoral irregularities and manipulations.

A press conference will be held outside the States Building, Royal Square at 11am by both applicants.

Nick Le Cornu said “Jersey’s first General Election has been marred by irregularities in elections across the island and most recently in the Senatorial recount which “found” new votes. New matters are emerging on a daily basis from elections across the island.”

“To the very end I am fulfilling my mandate as Deputy to challenge the way things have been done in the past. That is what I stood for when I was elected in the March by-election. I am morally obliged to take that commitment seriously.”

“I asked the Chief Minister twice during question time and the Chairman of the Privileges and Procedures Committee if election observers would be invited to Jersey’s first General Election and received anodyne answers. The present mess is the consequence.”

“PPC and the Parishes have been found wanting.  Complacency and indifference abound. The absence of rigor and professionalism is matched by a refusal to implement best practice and standards applicable elsewhere. There even appears to be ignorance of the detailed handbooks produced by the Electoral Commission in the UK for the forthcoming May 2015 General Election.”

“During the count in St Helier 3/4 some 261 pre poll votes were not added in before the result of the election was announced. This discovery necessitated a restatement of the numbers.”

“I have evidence of Portuguese people registered to vote being turned away from pre-polling on spurious grounds that their names could not be found. No effort was made to check persons by their address in the street roll of electors”.

“Large numbers of Poles discovered that they were not registered to vote following an extensive voter registration campaign by the supporters of a Polish Senatorial candidate. Forms known to have been delivered to the Town Hall simply had not been processed, denying the right to vote on election day.”

“In the Deputies ballot box of District No.1 there appeared a blank ballot for Deputy in District No.2 St Helier. I suspect this irregularity occurred from a error at pre-polling resulting in the ballot being directed to the wrong polling station. This should be investigated”

“We have to look beyond one little error in one District. There were a preponderance of irregularities and the devil is in the detail. These raise doubts about the integrity of the election as a whole. These things cannot be dismissed as “an accident” when looked at together.”

“Of particular concern to us is that Scott Wickenden was allowed to stand as a candidate and end up being elected a Deputy in District No.1, when his nomination form was defective by virtue of not having 9 seconders, all capable of voting for him in that election. It is inconceivable that the checking process by the Parish of St Helier failed to spot this most fundamental of errors, that one of his seconders was registered in District No.2. Checking is supposed to occur before the nomination meeting, on the night and double checked subsequently. This is gross negligence by Scott Wickenden and on the part of the Constable and Parish of St Helier.”

“The onus is entirely on the candidate to present a valid nomination form at the Nomination Meeting. The absence of 9 seconders on the nomination form invalided the candidate and his election. The candidate only has himself to blame if he cannot understand the fundamental requirements of the election law. These are spelled out in the instructions attached to every nomination paper obtained from a Parish hall.”

“Election disputes are inherent to elections. Challenging an election, its conduct or its results, should however not be perceived as a reflection of weakness, but proof of the strength, vitality and openness of the political system. The right to vote would be merely abstract if the right to sue to enforce it was not guaranteed in law.”

“This is a political issue that must be challenged for the sake of the integrity of the electoral process in Jersey.”

“On the 9th November will be the 25th anniversary of the collapse of states who had other electoral standards than ours. Twenty five years after the non-elected Socialist governments disappeared we cannot get our elections honest.”

“Were this Russia or Ukraine these anomalies would be presented as a “crisis of democracy.”

Reform Jersey Public Meeting.

Chief Minister, Senator Ian Gorst, has lodged a proposition P.33 2014 which, according to Reform Member and St Helier Deputy, Sam Mezec, is possibly the most fundamental change to Ministerial Government since its inception and if adopted will take power away from the States Assembly and put it solely in the hands of the Chief Minister. Indeed it will take power away from Ministers (yours and my representatives) who will have to vote how they are told or face losing their position on the Council of Ministers without facing a vote of no confidence by the so-called "democratically" elected Chamber. The Chief Minister will be doing the hiring and firing.

As a consequence (of P.33) Reform Jersey is holding a public meeting at St Helier Town Hall this Thursday 24th April at 7:30pm for all islanders where Reform Jersey will be setting out its own stool on this radical, and possibly dictatorial, reform and gauging the public's view.

Reform Members Deputy Nick Le Cornu, and Sam Mezec, in an exclusive interview, with Citizens Media, briefly discuss p33 and the up-coming Public Meeting.

Please attend the meeting if you want to learn more about this proposition, or just as importantly, want your views heard on it.

Reform Jersey's Deputies Le Cornu and Mezec (Exclusive).

Newly elected Deputies and Members of Reform Jersey, Nick Le Cornu, and Sam Mezec, have given their first official, and exclusive, interview since being elected in St Helier No.1 and 2 respectively. They kindly accepted an invitation from VFC to discuss their victory at the polls, to explain who, or what Reform Jersey is, what it/they hope to achieve before the October General Election, what is the long-term goal of Reform Jersey? Party Politics, Citizens Media, Blogs (Jersey's only independent media) and plenty more subjects we hope will be informative to those who care about Jersey politics and the direction this Island is heading.

Deputies Le Cornu and Mezec, as part of Reform Jersey, have a vision of bringing Jersey politics into the twenty first century. Both have been Blogging for a number of years, have a fairly high profile across Social Media, to include Twitter and Facebook accounts (links at bottom of post). Professor Adrian Lee, an expert in politics in small jurisdictions, believes their online presence on Social Media played a part in their successful election which would suggest that Blogs (Jersey's only independent media) and Social Media, as a whole, IS becoming more influential in 21st century politics.

Reform Jersey believes the way forward for the Island's politics lies with a party system which they say will bring an end to "personality politics" and offer more (at least some) accountability at the Ballot Box. This is something that is being talked about, and has been for some time, across the political divide and is starting to look like a reality.........Finally!

If you, the reader/viewer, would like to get involved with Reform Jersey, either as a volunteer, a member, a potential candidate or if you have an issue where you need some political representation and believe they can help you can e-mail them at  reformjersey@gmail.com. They don't, as yet, have a government e-mail address but when they do we will publish it in the comments section of this post.
