Cow and Gate-gate: Connétable John Le Bailly's “Good Authority” is revealed.

Islanders (of Jersey) cannot have escaped the viral speech given, in the States Chamber, by St. Mary Constable John Le Bailly (Thursday 24th October 2018). His speech came as part of a debate concerning "Employment (Jersey) Law 2003: review of parental leave rights amendments."

We have, for the purpose of this Blog Posting, and the historic record, published the relevant part of the speech to YouTube which can be viewed HERE. The relevant part being where he said he;"had it on good authority that this current breastfeeding thing is a fad."

Well we are pleased to say he has made a very welcome return!

In this exclusive guest posting by our very good friend, Lord Reginald Hamilton Rawley Tooting-Jones III, the Chairman of the JUP (Jersey Ultra-Conservative Party) reveals who was the "good authority" behind John Le Bailly’s (now infamous) “Breastfeeding fad” comments.

Speaking exclusively to Team Voice, he said:

"We were at The Club when me, Rolly and a few others started telling John (Le Bailly) about Breastfeeding. He had never heard of it, and so we told him it was brand new... a bit of a fad if you like, and that it would never catch on. Well, poor old John believed us."

"He wasn’t sure at first and asked how small humans were normally fed, as he could not remember anything from his childhood after the incident with the female roofer, when he and her fell off the roof after a particularly technical job, and he suffered a severe concussion."

"Anyway, we said that in the past it was the norm for most babies to be suckled by wild animals, either by wolves, as in the case with Romulus and Remus, or by apes, as with Tarzan. But, for health and safety reasons, it was now considered best practice to use Cow and Gate baby products."

Lord Reg went on to say that they were chatting about this ahead of the so-called family friendly legislation (or “business hostile” legislation, as the JUP call it) that the Social Security Minister was bringing forward.

"We did not expect him to actually say it in the Assembly, although we were rolling around in fits of merriment at the lodge when we watched it on the direct interweb and The Facebooks broadcast."

Lord Reg, who has recently come back from a safari and business trip in Rhodesia, said that he was particularly pleased with the "amazing free publicity" that has now been given world-wide to Cow and Gate, in which he is a major investor.

As Party Chairman, he explains how it has actually been an excellent year for the Jersey government.  Despite a year filled with dozens of examples of incompetence, broken promises, U-turns, flip-flopping, giving the public's money to amateur con-men and giving away public land for the benefit of rich financiers, all against the public's wishes, not one of them has had to resign, let alone apologise. Like all good Jersey Tories, they remain arrogant and unaccountable, even in the face of numerous failures which would have seen governments elsewhere fall.

So, Lord Reg's message to you all is, don't worry your little heads about politics. Keep watching Strictly, X-Factor and the soaps. It could be worse: you could live in Albert Square.

"A vacancy for Jurat has arisen and there is a rumour that it will be a contested election - possibly with a candidate being fielded by the loony left. This would be highly irregular as preferred candidates  are normally the domaine of the righteous right. 

Readers will be relieved to know that the law specifically states that women and non-anglicans can hold the esteemed office. Very progressive!

'Qualifications for the office of Jurat

(2) For the avoidance of doubt, it is hereby declared that –


(a) a person, by reason of the fact that the person is not a member of the Established Church, shall not be disqualified for being appointed Jurat;


(b) a woman, by reason of her sex or marriage, shall not be disqualified for being appointed Jurat. '

Celebrating Democracy Day.......Jersey Style.

After the success of the YISS CAMPAIGN, and by popular demand, Lord Reginald Hamilton Tooting Rawley Jones III returns to our screens in what we hope will become a regular series of political, satirical, commentary.

As the UK celebrated ‘Democracy Day’ this week, to mark 750 years of the first parliament of elected representatives at Westminster, The Jersey Conservative Party showed how it is committed to scaling back democracy, by making sure that it will now be even more difficult to call a ‘requête for a parish Assembly.

Writing opposing the move, brought by the Comité des Connétables P.173/2014, Former Constable and Minister, Mike Jackson criticised the Comité saying: ‘The requête is the ‘little person’s’ opportunity to get their proposition considered and in view of the numbers that generally attend Parish Assemblies, the requirement for 4 signatories seems reasonable but 10 unnecessarily onerous.

Given that there is little to be gained by this proposition please review your support for it as I don’t believe it does the office of Connétable any favours!’

At the same time, the Conservative majority fought off proposals from the opposition – Reform Jersey – to increase the minimum wage by a further 10p an hour, P.175/2014 and to protect workers from unfair dismissal. It will now be possible to dismiss employees P.169/2014 in an unfair way for 12 months, not just six.
