  • Primary sponsor: Hemming, John

    • That this House welcomes the arrival in the UK of US journalist Leah McGrath Goodman, the only journalist known to have been banned from the UK at any time during the last 10 years; notes that she was banned by the UK Border Agency (UKBA) in 2011 when she indicated an intention to research matters relating to Haut de la Garenne in Jersey; further notes that this was prior to the revelation of James Savile's visits to Haut de la Garenne; further notes that there are allegations children have disappeared from Jersey; further notes that the details of the original process resulting in her ban in 2011 and a full explanation of the delays in her being provided with a visa in 2013 have still not been revealed; calls on the UKBA to provide the missing CCTV records of the events in 2011 and full details of the communications relating to her being banned and the inquiries which delayed the provision of her visa in 2013; further calls on the Jersey government to co-operate with Ms Goodman in her investigations into the disappearance of these children; and further calls for the Government to stop being complacent about the disappearance of children from care in recent years and for the Government to recognise that an independent audit is required not only for financial arrangements but also for the outcomes for children.

    1. Read it on Facebook.
Not much of a journalist if she refused to be interviewed by BBC Jersey though.

      1. It could be, like a growing number of people, that she doesn't trust the BBC and this might go some way to explain WHY

      2. And she *is* a journalist so she is not really the story, so why would she want to be interviewed by the BBC or any TV/newspaper!

    2. Ha! Ha! What proper journalist WOULD want to be interviewed by BBC Jersey?

    3. BBC Jersey is lead by a rude, rule-breaking, non-apologetic person and I have the evidence to proove it.

      1. Enough evidence of unapologetic rudeness, arrogance and complete faith in his immunity from any oversight from BBC (national) is on John Averty's own Tweets. His downfall will be long hard and certain before the books, the history, and the court transcripts are all there in writing.

    4. What does this EDM say about Jersey's government when a UK politician has to ask these questions because the Jersey government aren't? With the exception of a couple of decent truth seekers like Pitman and Higgins.

    5. I've been interviewed by the BBC & radio 4 & they only air what they want people to see or hear.

    6. Hope it is OK I clarify...I do talk to BBC and other media outlets, both on- and off-island. Usually informally and journalist to journalist. My job is not to be the interviewee, but the interviewer. As a rule, journalists typically only do interviews as the "subject" of the story after the work is done -- or at key intervals in the research process. When it is timely and appropriate, I am happy to share things. In the meantime, everyone at the media outlets in Jersey know they can call me anytime.

    7. VFC.

Makes you wonder if Sally Bradley QC has read your latest blog and if she is aware of MP John Hemming's, very recent Early Day Motion?!

      1. One would believe that if Sally Bradley is looking for "evidence" she will be reading this, and other Blogs. If she is looking for Tooth fairy stories she will be reading the State Media sites.

      2. Perfectly said, VFC, perfectly said. Though even the tooth fairy didn't believe that story about the milk teeth falling between foorboards and burying themselves with burnt bones.

      3. Let's hope that Sally Bradley QC will get the answers to ALL the questions posed HERE

    8. If Leah McGrath Goodman has amassed a bundle of evidence will she be submitting it to the committee of inquiry?

      1. The big question is; will Mick Gradwell be giving evidence to the Inquiry if Operation Elveden hasn't caught up with him in the meantime.?

    9. You and your fellow bloggers have succeeded in rendering the Jersey mainstream media irrelevant to local investigative journalism, but an incredibly persistent mainland reporter or blogger may be needed to access and ask the questions of Mick Gradwell. He has no foreseeable motive to voluntarily confess his dirty crimes and if he is somehow made to do so, it will probably be only if his criminality is already being exposed, and needs some fast spinning. What he did was too obviously unethical to have been done without his having presumed guarantees of protection. What might it take for a UK operation to be able to touch him? Would the UK system be clean enough of the taint of Jersey ties? I'm thinking of his ties to David Rose, who does not lie on behalf of his handlers just for the sake of a few in Jersey's.

      1. There will be a few others quaking in their boots now that the international media, and others, are taking an interest in the Haut de la Garenne cover up. Mick Gradwell (if guilty) will be hung out to dry quicker than a politicians handshake.

      2. Thanks. I hope so. There's no honour in a den of thieves as they say. I also believe he will eventually be exposed because of the facts placed out there by you and fellow bloggers. But would he willingly testify in Jersey? I think he'd have to be brought down by a mainland investigation, so maybe Operation Elveden?

      3. It is fabulous how the pace on the independent blogs (posts and comments) is hotting up exponentially.

Citizen journalism at its best, and the seriousness of the matter apart, great entertainment for followers like myself. The frequency of my checking out the blogs is also increasing exponentially.

Keep up the good work and don't forget to pace yourselves, you'll need the stamina in the coming while.

Just for the record I am following (via bookmarks) Stuart, VFC, Rico, Trevor and Bob. A profusion of riches.

      4. Thanks for the support, the Blogs have come a long way in the last couple of years and are growing from strength to strength with the readership growing likewise.

We now have recognition from national and international journalists who see the "evidence" published on the Blogs as a vital source of information and the local State Media is being left out in the cold. We have a healthy amount of very credible sources who have trusted us with many documents for publication knowing the documents WILL get published and not buried.

There is loads more yet to come, and your advice to pace ourselves is appreciated and taken.

      5. VFC,

I would echo just what Póló said. From our outsider perspectives, what you are accomplishing as independent journalists is remarkable. A profusion of riches, indeed. Much admiration!

    10. I'm with Polo, who is always an excellent commentator.

It's getting to the point that there is so much dirt being surfaced on all of the blogs that it is becoming quite time consuming to keep up.

I wouldn't have it any other way.

      :-)

    11. Why is it that this EDM only has 2 signatories ? How many does it need to be debated ?

      ReplyDelete
    12. Disgraceful that this EDM still only has 2 signatories. Why aren't others taking this more seriously ?

    14. Hi Voice,

I'm just watching the movie Hot Fuzz on ITV. It does make me chuckle. I keep having to remind myself that it's NOT a documentary about Jersey!
