Mario Lundy Named by Jersey Child Abuse Inquiry.

Not for the first time the former Director of Education, Mario Lundy, has been named in an investigation into Child Abuse, this time by evidence given to the ongoing JERSEY CHILD ABUSE INQUIRY. (COI)

Back in February 2009, after going through all the correct channels (and coming up against a brick wall) in order to get some answers I was forced into door-stepping Mr. Lundy (video below) the then Chief Executive Officer at Education.

At that time, (2008) the then Senator Stuart Syvret, had named Mr. Lundy in the Island's Parliament as an alleged abuser. It was reported by Bloggers (Jersey's only independent media) that he (Lundy) was a priority suspect in the Police Child Abuse Investigation (Operation Rectangle) and a "Notice of Disclosure" was sent to the then Home Affairs Minister ANDREW LEWIS among others yet Mr. Lundy was not removed from post.

The Island's State Media has reported on the naming of Lundy today  ITV/CTV. BBC State Radio has it as their headline news but can't find it on the BBC's website, or JEP's.

VFC was questioning these allegations, back in 2008/9 and asking why Lundy was not suspended from duty while he was under police investigation.......Questions NOT being asked by the State Media.

Hopefully some six years later questions will be asked (and answers given) as to why Mario Lundy was able to remain in his post as Education CEO while he was being investigated as part of a Child Abuse Investigation. Who decided NOT to suspend him? Will that person(s) be called to explain his/her actions before the Child Abuse Committee of Inquiry?

Was he protected by the then Chief Executive Officer of the States Of Jersey Bill (Golden Handshake) Ogley? This extract from the AFFIDAVIT of the former Jersey Chief Police Officer, Graham Power QPM, might suggest so.

"The third example I have chosen relates to a Strategic Planning Workshop held at the St Pauls Centre on Friday 24th October 2008. The Workshop was attended by a number of senior public servants including myself and the Chief Executive. At the commencement of the workshop the Chief Executive asked for silence and said that he had an announcement to make. He named a senior civil servant who was present. The person named is a suspect in the abuse investigation but has not been suspended. The Chief Executive said that the suspect had his total support and that “if anyone wants to get…….(the suspect)…….they would have to get me first”. This announcement was applauded by some but not all of the persons present. I took it as a further indication of the “in crowd” closing ranks against the “threat” of the abuse enquiry. The Chief Executive later played a significant role in my suspension."

Will Mr. Lundy's alleged Victims/Survivors finally start to get something that resembles Justice and closure?

  4. When oh when will the paid accredited media get It ? they just look so out of touch in the digital age of news coverage, plus old fashioned, and dare I say captured, only because the blogs are presenting up to date and relevant public interest feedback and information.

No matter that the man held the position of head of education for a long period. Remember chief executive Bill Ogley over my dead body comments; he was talking about his friend executive Mario Lundy. No doubt VFC or Rico Sordas blog will have the exact worlds on file a reliable source's where the truth sees the light of day, unlike Jersey's BBCJersey, ITVChannel, and the Jersey Evening Post, all have been discredited as amateur’s with something to hide, when will you say enough is enough and do your jobs properly ? the internet and blogs like this are growing because of small island media cowardice.

  5. It's quite fascinating that the ITV/ITN franchise in Jersey (an expressly conflicted franchise at that) - and the BBC TV news in Jersey (an expressly conflicted BBC operation at that) - can both report enthusiastically a pro-establishment take on the latest Jersey oligarchy "judicial" suppressions against me - in spite of the fact neither ITV/ITN - nor the BBC - were present in court (so how on Earth they got their information "we just can't imagine") - but yet they can both neglect to report on their prime-time TV "news" shows the dramatic fact the former Director of the actual Education Department was named as a child-abuser during the privileged proceedings of a "public inquiry" - at which both outlets did have reporters present.

    How do child-abuse cover-ups happen?

    There you go.

    1. Now we know why BBC needed all those people in the Inquiry press room. They needed to be sure they missed nothing that needed screening out when it came to their reporting.

Handy too, taking up enough seats to exclude others.

Off their heads, though. The proceedings are available to all anyway. Only making fools of themselves.

  8. As I recall Lundy has since retired and left the island, which will of course make him a hard person to question further, on these matters. Still relevant that the chief of police Graham Power who attempted to bring abusers to justice got suspended when a suspected abuser was allowed to remain in post and was openly defended by the Chief Executive Bill Ogley. In the Jersey regime you are either “in” or “in the way” and are treated accordingly.

    1. What really needs investigation regarding William Bailhache is how and why he ignored clear evidence in the Donnelly case which should have seen a UK businessman also prosecuted for abuse. Not only Donnelly but even the victim stating that this man was an abuser. Funny how hard evidence to warrant at least a court appearance is ignored if it suits the Establishment? To think only yesterday we had Bailhache moaning about how the Establishment needed to reclaim the 'Jersey Way' from the corruption we all know it means.

    1. Rumour has it that he left the island shortly after taking early retirement. The Child Abuse Inquiry CAN subpoena people who are on island ONLY (as far as I am aware) So if Mr. Lundy is indeed off-island then the Inquiry is unable to force him to return and answer any allegations that might be levelled at him.

    2. If he refuses to return in order to answer the accusations of abused islanders, then stop his large pension funded by islanders until he does. Of course he will take the States to court great job done he is in the witness box.

Is the Jersey public administration focused enough to make it happen or are they a Mafia type club ? Do they worry that old colleagues may be dragged back in to answer uncomfortable questions. You bet they do.

  11. BBC Radio Jersey is asking what the phrase "The Jersey Way" means to islanders since William Bailhache has tried to hijack it and convince people it means things like "competent integrity compassion"

The Jersey way means protection of pedophiles illegally suspending police chiefs who are investigating pedophiles and not suspending child abusers. It means having a corrupt judiciary used to crush political opponents who dare speak out. Holding secret court cases to silence whistle blowing bloggers. Having a tame media who won't challenge the Establishment and spill out propaganda day after day.

    1. The Jersey Way means secret court cases like against Stuart Syvret on behalf of trolls and psychos and selective politically motivated prosecutions like against Shona Pitman and old Geoffrey but not Establishment candidates for registering people for a postal vote. Most of all it means silencing the victims of abuse and those handful of politicians who stood up for them. Bailhache is a disgrace.

  14. Perhaps the tide is turning? Nobody could accuse me of rolling-over to the trad media - but acknowledgment when they do their job; the Jersey Evening Post edition today - 29th Jan 2015 - covers several important public-interest stories in an accurate and unusually frank way.

Not least a blunt reporting of the testimony given to the Jersey #CSAinquiry in respect of the allegations of violent child-abuse against former Education CE Mario Lundy.

And - unlike other media - the JEP had a reporter - a good reporter - present in court during my efforts to resist the judicial suppression I've been subjected to, and he noted and wrote-up many of the significant issues which arose.

Perhaps the JEP under its new editor is heading towards becoming a real & effective part of the Fourth-Estate?

We'll have to watch with interest.

The real question is when are Gradwell, Lundy and other high ranking influential people going to be called to answer accusations, or are the police actually getting involved. I would hope if the panel makes the effort to call them in a non judicial way and that they make the effort to appear.

It is unlikely they will, therefore they should get front page and lead story in all of Jersey's media asking what are they afraid of, and advertising a no show.

    1. Yes indeed - this is money well spent though, and if the 'powers that be' had addressed this issue openly and honestly in the very first place, prosecuted the people that they should have, believed abuse survivors and not engaged in a very costly cover-up, this expenditure would not have been necessary.

Too late now. Let the Inquiry get on with its remit. After all the frivolous waste(s) of money we see the States have squandered over the last few years, at least there will be a result and answers at the end of this.

      Delete
    2. You make a good point Jill. If The Powers That Be had of done the right thing at the very beginning, held its hands up, prosecuted those who deserve prosecuting, compensated the Victims/Survivors "adequately" instead of spending millions on the continued cover-up then this would have all but blown over by now.

What's more "The Jersey Way" could mean what William Bailhache wants it to mean but until him, his brother, Tim Le Cocq, Mick Birt and the Law Offices start to do the right thing "The Jersey Way" will, for the vast majority, refer to cover up, corruption, secrecy, criminality, politicised and corrupt judicial system, pedo protectors and such like.

I used to be proud of this island and would take any opportunity I had to boast about it. It's the Establishment that has tarred this island with such a dark brush and we all have to suffer because of it. I am now embarrassed/ashamed to admit I come from Jersey because of the actions of a politicised and corrupt judicial system and politicians who are too cowardly to put their heads above the parapet and do the right thing by those people who had their childhoods stolen, and lives wrecked, by the State.

    1. Isn’t that “The Jersey Way?” Minimising the extent of abuse that might have occurred?

“being clouted in the classroom sounds like the norm back then everywhere.”

The full extent of Mr. Lundy’s alleged abuse has not come to light yet and people are already claiming it was nothing more than “a clout in the classroom.”

Perhaps those who are attempting to minimize Mr. Lundy’s abuse should wait until the full evidence has come out before looking to defend the alleged abuser?

One must remember that it was the former president of the Education Committee, Iris Le Feuvre when talking of Haut de la Garenne.

"It's been a terrible business. But mostly I feel for William and Sir Philip Bailhache. They've been through so much."

      When asked about the victims she had this to say;

"Oh, such a fuss has been made. My father always used a belt on me. It did me the world of good."

Of course we have now heard horrifying testimony from victims at the Child Abuse Inquiry, including one victim, who I believe was around 8 year old at the time, explaining how he was anally raped by a member of staff at the home and his bum was bleeding for three days afterwards. He was so embarrassed that he tried to secretly conceal the bleeding by packing it with toilet paper. When he did finally get to see a doctor, he was told it was piles.

That’s just one example of many that was described by the former Education President as "Oh, such a fuss has been made. My father always used a belt on me. It did me the world of good."

It might (should) well be that Mrs. Le Feuvre is regretting what she said without giving the full evidence a chance to be heard. Hopefully those seeking to defend Mr. Lundy will wait until they are better informed before they start jumping to conclusions.

Would this be the same Iris Le Feuvre who sat on the Victoria College Board of Governors during the Jervis-Dykes abuse cover up and then had the gall to be one of the two individuals who proposed the disgraced Vice-Principle John Le Breton to be a Jurat? Think so and Philip Bailhache was also on that Board, a Bailiff happy to have a man among his Jurats who refused to look at evidence of abuse against his friend Jervis-Dykes and instead supported him. Is this what William Bailhache means about reclaiming the true meaning of the Jersey Way?

Readers should be aware that the day it was revealed this victim was allegedly anally raped ITV/CTV made no mention of it. The disgraced "news" channel did however mention the flicking of the towel in the shower alluded to by another witness/victim.

Those with a true interest in this sordid and ghastly chapter in Jersey's history would do well to get their information from the transcripts published on the inquiry's website HERE.

Regular readers will know to take with a pinch of salt what is reported by some parts of the island's State Media.

    6. A commenter above says this:

"This enquiry has achieved nothing - save allow certain individuals to rubbish the reputations of certain people and have the opportunity to make accusations without allow people to defend themselves."

That assertion is nonsense. Firstly, although this inquiry is structurally flawed - and not terribly competently led - it has already achieved certain things. For example, curating and exposing a great deal of evidence that was otherwise fragmented or hidden from public view. It has also, of course, provided a forum to those survivors who have chosen to give evidence.

But it is the latter part of the comment which is particularly nonsensical. Anyone accused during the course of the inquiry is able to avail themselves of exactly the same forum in which to defend themselves. It is simply untrue to say the process "doesn't allow people to defend themselves."

The claim is especially misleading, because insofar as legal representation - and the obvious backing of what passes for a "judicial" system in Jersey in the event of any dispute - is concerned, accused abusers and concealers have the process biased and rigged in their favour. For example, the culpable civil servants already have tax-payer funded lawyers representing them & the States at the CoI - whereas people in my position, a whistle-blower and key witness - have been refused legal representation. A decision which demonstrates on an evidenced basis that in fact the CoI and its processes are biased in favour of the Jersey establishment, and against the whistle-blowers.

    1. As was mention earlier in this thread (by me). Wait until all the evidence has been heard before jumping to conclusions.

The State Media will concentrate on what appears to be the less serious abuse claims. The so-called “less serious” claims do however build up a picture of the alleged abuser’s demeanour.

That is to say, let’s take the piano incident mentioned above for instance. If that teacher had beaten the living daylights out of a child with a baseball bat, the inquiry would want to know if the teacher had exhibited any aggressive behaviour previously. If it was discovered (s)he broke a child’s fingers which caused them to be off school for 5 weeks then that could demonstrate that the teacher did have a propensity towards violence and would help corroborate the baseball bat incident.

A picture needs to be built up of the alleged offender(s)

    2. In my opinion ideally the inquiry would also hear evidence of the Jersey police and AG ignoring and so encouraging the abuse of victims and those who have stood tall in their defence by psychotic coward peddling their hate via false names on line. Alrighty so I know that the troll behind this abuse is just the most inadequate sort of human being but still another abuser.

  28. There is another angle to punishment at school. It may have been wrong, but I and many others after doing wrong got the cane etc. This was a system that ( wrong as it may seem ) generally felt that the punishment would correct the behaviour in the boy in most cases it achieved the desired result.

This is different to a pedophile or sadist abusing a child for self gratification. The two are completely separate.

Would be so much easier to believe their claims of innocent incompetence IF THEY DIDN'T ALWAYS MAKE THEIR "MISTAKES" IN THE SAME DIRECTION and effect.

So much further to go to undo even a fraction of their JEP historic damage and lies

  41. Do you know if the enquiry will be calling any of those who have overseen the judicial failing of the victims ie Jersey Bailiffs?

    1. I'd be very surprised if the current Bailiff isn't called before the Inquiry due to his (in)actions during his role as Attorney General where he should have some extremely uncomfortable questions to answer.

  42. Slight change of subject but still abuse. Abuse of the trust of islanders, abuse of the planning system, pledges given by Ozouf to convince states members all evaporated, yet most ministers and Constables, look the other way as an unelected quango, steamroller's ahead with what appears to be a completely unneeded and un-popular development that should be built by the private sector.

Where is Bailhache, probably traveling the world staying in five star hotels shaking hands with Arabs, where is Ozouf probably having dinner in restaurant in London paid for by Jersey.

Islanders are about to be shafted by the States of Jersey Development Ltd and nothing is done by the majority of politicians. What a disgrace, what a shower of wasters. There must be an awful lot of brown stuffed bags being handed out.

  43. I thought I had read it all until this morning.
Maureen Morgan complaining to the JEP about fake accounts, oh you couldn't make it up!
