Jersey's only Political Party - Reform Jersey - has issued the below Press Release. The Party would also like to invite members of the public to a Seminar being held at the Jersey Opera House this Saturday 10th March 6pm until 8pm. Equalities Officers Elected by Reform Jersey
Press Release.

Reform Jersey is pleased to announce that two ‘Equality Officers’ have been elected as part of its management team.

Graca Ramos and Edyta Buard will act as joint-chairs with special oversight for such matters as diversity, equality and community outreach both within the party organisation and in policy making, in general.

In the run up to the election, they will be working with the management team to engage particularly with female voters, Portuguese and Polish residents and other nationals. They will also support candidates in their campaigns within this groups.

Speaking for the Party, Mrs Buard said, “It is important that the States Assembly should more actively reflect the diversity that is present the wider community. Reform Jersey, too, recognise that diversity within the party activists and management is also vital for good policy making and for effective outreach.”

Ms Ramos said that Reform Jersey had actively been seeking to recruit female candidates and dual nationals, who could ‘speak the language’ of the community they would represent, both figuratively and literally. ‘Engaging the non-native Jersey population in Jersey has, for a long time, been a problem. The Portuguese community is no different. I believe that when the first Portuguese candidate is elected, it will be a milestone for Jersey politics and that should really help engage many Portuguese who may never have previously voted in Jersey.’

Party Chairman, Deputy Sam Mézec, said that he was delighted to have Ms Ramos and Mrs Buard as part of the team. ‘They are both very talented and compassionate individuals, who have been doing much good work in the community, professionally and as volunteers.’

He also said that the Party had recently endorsed 12 candidates at its recent management team meeting, and that the slate was very diverse both in terms of expertise and background. ‘We have 5 female candidates, young candidates, retired professionals, all with a wealth of soft and hard skills. I am looking forward to campaigning together with such a great group of people. I think this election has the potential to surprise many people and deliver the positive change in politics that the island needs.’(ENDS)

  1. Good move by Reform Jersey.

But if we are to bring about real change then surely Mr Mezec and his colleagues should have been campaigning to get the illegal ban lifted on Jersey's best ever centre-left politician, former Deputy Shona Pitman?

We also need to see the party put quality candidates up against the awful Pryke, Pinel, Moore and Mzbourian who have helped set back women's right in the island to a degree similar to Margaret Thatcher.

Great to see this blog back though. Been sorely missed.

  3. Just as I was about to give up on ever seeing Jersey's finest blog return I clicked on one last time. I was so chuffed when something new came up! All we need now is the return of the Bald Truth. But I suppose that is just too much good news to expect on one day.

  4. Does this mean we will unexpectedly have a genuine source of proper news come this election in May? Yay! The JEP sales slide even further! Wake up Rico Sorda. Your island needs you again.

  5. Hooray! Not for Reform Jersey. But for the return of this blog. Long overdue. Look forward to futre posts. If I may also comment briefly on the comment posted at 17.19 I think your poster may wait a long time. I too admired Shona Pitman greatly, her husband likewise. But I do not think those who run Reform Jersey would want anyone who might well steal some of the limelight from them. It is the old problem of the political left and why they/we fail. Ego. I will still vote for Reform Jersey should there be a candidate in St Saviour 2. But I also say to any who might question my comments. Just consider the press release published on the Tom Gruchy blog from the Pitmans. What have we heard from Deputies Mezec, Tadier and Southern regarding such staggering corruption and abuse of office? Not a word.

    1. At least Deputy Higgins always steps up to the plate. The only essential vote at May's election. I trust Reform are not putting anyone up aagainst him that might split the vote?

  7. Just looked on the Opera House booking thing and I can't see it listed. Could you also find out if it's possible to buy tickets on the door. Thanks Voice.

  8. Hope this translates to some Portuguese candidates.

  9. 12 candidates sounds quite healthy at least until we see the quality. No doubt this includes the sitting Deputies? Anything but 50% success rate will be failure though. I do hope that if he becomes a Senator Mezec will finally be brave enough to start speaking out about corruption. He has had four years after all.

    1. No, Peaches, "Senator Mezec" will not be brave enough to speak out about corruption (i.e. wilful law-breaking by civil servants) unless it suits him, politically, to do so. If it doesn't suit him then he'll happily stay silent. You'll be hearing more about this from me fairly soon...

    2. Its all about him, me thinks. It is no good doing great work for better pay for workers and the poor if you keep your head down about corruption. All three of Reform Jersey do this. How many times have we seen poor old brave Higgins left holding his political todger when he has brought up issues of real importance. Plastic progressives as Stuart Syvret used to say?

  10. You should treat out that you're back on Twitter. Chatting to a former follower this morning and they didn't know.

Really good to see you back though. Hope you enjoyed the world cruise. If refreshed now you can start reporting the truth for us about the election.

  11. Can't belive the lazy and useless Kristina Moore is going for Senator. A female Lyndan Farnham but much nastier. All we need now is the equally lazy and uncaring Suzi Pinel putting herself forward.

    1. Not brave enough. Pinel has crawled back to stand in St Clements. There are 2 new candidates declared there already plus the old ones. Don't think Reform will be there as there still advertising for a candidate there.

  12. The Senators is going to be dire, a snooze-fest of safe hands and bullshit. No wonder they wanted Trevor Pitman out. He would have topped the poll with this dross.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Great to see you back after 20 weeks. You must have been tempted to blog after the Pitmans were rightfully void of bankruptcy. Not many people would have known this if it hadn't been for Tom Gruchys blog. The rag and co have not in any way reported this huge and relivent story. Wonder why not?!

  14. Hope this isn't just a PR stunt from Reform. Press release certainly doesn't read like it wax written by anyone other than Southern. Does anyone know if either of the women gave interviews on what would be important news? I know the msm don't report anything positive and important from the Left (just look at the Pitman press release referred to above) but then Reform are hardly the threat the Pitmans and Syvret were. Good luck to the ladies though. Hope they are candidates themselves.

  15. Good to have you back. Won't be voting Reform though. One trick ponies who never speak out about establishment corruption. Let's hope there are some good new candidates.

  16. Why does nobody from Reform Jersey ever answer criticisms? I presume they sent you this press release if you aren't a party member youself? So why not have the courtesy to answer quite fair questions about their lack of confronting the Jersey Way as people like Deputy Higgins does? I am sorry to say I think Jerry Gosselin comments.

  22. Ian Gorst allows a minister to relocate to London, to live with his husband and have commute. Air fares paid for by taxpayers all under the ridiculous excuse he is wotking for Jersey. Minister Ozouf not ask to resign by Ian Gorst but stand aside. Gorst defended Ozouf over Innovation fund farce, another squander of tax payers money the list just goes on and on.

No confidence in Ian Gorst who wants to be re elected to continue as chief Minister, protecting his incompetent ministers with the hospital in the wrong place and five star Jollys all over the world.

Just go Ian you had your chance, and blew it.

    1. Couldn't agree more and on top of this Gorst does not give a fig about the way jersey's courts under successive Bailiffs have abused their office by allowing appalling miscarriages of justice.

Go you horrible political coward. You make Ben Shenton look a step forward and that is sayimng something extreme believe me.

    2. Shenton ugh. Remember Farnham and MacLean were also in it up to there necks with the innovation fund. At least Ozo stood aside, Farnham and MacLean just pretended they had nothing to do with it.

  23. THERE IS NO 'I' IN TEAM11 March 2018 at 19:42

I have just seen in my sister's copy of the Rag (I do try to persuade her not to buy it the same as my family never buy the Sun back in my home of 20 years ago, Merseyside) that Deputy Mezec is speaking out on how the judiciary should not have re-trials. All I would like to ask the Deputy is how is it that he never speaks out on what was done to his progressive predecessors Syvret and the Pitmans? If ever there were two cases FOR re-trials it is what was done to these fine people. In case our would be Senator hasn't noticed in his navel gazing the former has the threat of bankruptcy hanging over him should he want to stand. Even worse the Pitmans having not only been screwed by the court are barred from standing for NINE years.
